Challenge & Objectives
Organized crime and terrorist organisations are often at the forefront of technological innovation in planning, executing and concealing their criminal activities and the revenues stemming from them. Within this context, INSPECTr aims at equipping Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) with advanced technologies for tackling criminal activities.
INSPECTr specifically develops a shared intelligent platform and a novel process for gathering, analysing, prioritising and presenting key data to help in the prediction, detection and management of crime in support of multiple agencies at local, national and international level. The INSPECTr platform uses both structured and unstructured data as input. Data originating from the outputs of free and commercial digital forensic tools are complemented by online resource gathering.
The INSPECTr platform is aimed at facilitating the ingestion and homogenisation of this data with increased levels of automation, allowing for interoperability between outputs from multiple data formats. Various knowledge discovery techniques are leveraged to allow criminal investigators to visualise and bookmark important evidential material and export it to an investigative report.
The INSPECTr Platform is developed so as to:
- Provide basic and advanced cognitive cross-correlation analysis with existing case data,
- Improve knowledge discovery across exhibit analysis within a case, between separate cases and ultimately, between interjurisdictional investigations.
INSPECTr also deploys big data analytics, cognitive machine learning and blockchain approaches to significantly improve digital and forensics capabilities for pan-European LEAs.
In INSPECTr, eBOS is involved in:
- The implementation of common processes and baseline resources in the project’s Living Labs so as to experiment towards producing detailed requirements;
- The creation of a knowledge base on EU and national legislation and tools that support automated validation of LEA requests;
- The enrichment of existing software environments with smart widgets.
In addition, EBOS monitors the development of future standards related to privacy and personal data protection.
eBOS intends to expand the knowledge acquired in INSPECTr in view of further development of its solutions, refining and improving its testing and validation practises as well as exploiting the potential of smart widgets into its product portfolio.
